The history tells us that the first Newcastle shirts were red. But only after a few years, in 1894, the club started wearing black and white stripes. Newcastle was established as an association of different smaller clubs – and as none of the original clubs was wearing these colours – black and whites was chosen not to favour any of the clubs over the others.
